ENVIRONMENTAL RISK MONITORING.
Forestry.
Challenge
Governmental organizations, IGOs, NGOs, and companies require accurate, recurrent information to detect changes in vegetation and developing fire hazards across large swaths of land in order to manage and maintain their public forests and protect their assets. By leveraging satellite imagery including thermal, we can deliver situational awareness across large areas and detect indicators of deforestation and fire sooner, non-intrusively, and for a lower cost than traditional monitoring methods. We also build predictive models to mitigate future risk.
Aistech Solution
Aistech Space delivers deforestation and fire hazard monitoring, early warning, and prediction in a single platform tailored to client needs.
Deforestation
Aistech Space integrates space data with other sources to help organizations monitor land-cover and land-use, which can aid them in identifying rates, patterns and proximal causes of deforestation.
Together with forest inventories, this provides the foundation for monitoring, reporting. and verification systems. Example systems may be an early-warning of forest degradation, or a system to quantify loss (or gain) in above-ground biomass.
Fire Hazard
Aistech can provide near real-time early warning, burnt area mapping, and fire risk modeling to help organizations minimize the effects and risk of fire events. This analysis will leverage Aistech’s own high frequency, high resolution thermal infrared imagery, for which it will be the sole commercial provider in mid-2021.
Key variables we analyze to model fire risk:
- Fuel type (optical or SAR).
- Fuel moisture condition (thermal).

Infraestructure.
Challenge
Companies, regional governments, and financing institutions require accurate, recurrent information regarding their infrastructure installations to make decisions about their operations and safeguard the surrounding environment and communities.
By leveraging satellite imagery, we help organizations monitor effects such as air and water pollution of their infrastructure and related activities on the local environment over large areas at a lower cost than traditional methods, enabling organizations to respond to developing problems quickly and minimize risk.
Aistech Solution
HR imagery
Aistech and its partners can provide a birds’ eye view of your infrastructure and assets using high-resolution imagery (up to 0.3 m resolution). This solution is cost effective for basemaps and typically used for intermittent monitoring, where high-resolution details change gradually. Availability of visible imagery will depend on cloud cover.
Satellite-based HR digital surface models
Using satellite imagery, Aistech can provide digital surface models remotely, eliminating the need for people in the field. This reduces the cost and time spent performing large-scale surveying at ~ 1-2 m resolution, and limit the need for in-situ resources. Digital surface models are especially competitive in linear infrastructure surveys and can provide a high fidelity reference map for the surveyed area (RMSE < 2m).
Monitoring of land-use changes
We can provide maps of varying resolution according to need that can be delivered in different formats including a customized platform, and analysis of land-use and land-use change by combining optical, infrared and SAR data. These high to medium resolution maps enable stakeholders to lower costs on monitoring, more efficiently allocate in-person monitoring resources when needed, and take mitigating actions on potential hazards.
Mining.
Challenge
Large mine companies, regional governments, and financing institutions require accurate, recurrent information regarding mining installations to make decisions and increase the safety in the mining installations and its surroundings. The increasing number and size of mining operations increases the risk of adverse effects to the environment if not properly managed.
By leveraging satellite imagery, we help organizations monitor effects such as air and water pollution of mining activities on the local environment over large areas at a lower cost than traditional methods, enabling organizations to respond to developing problems quickly and minimize risk on active and enclosed installations.
Aistech Solution
Monitoring Environmental Risk from Mining Activity
Aistech can model the environmental impact of mining activities on the surrounding environment and communities, helping organizations manage their operations to reduce negative outcomes and meet corporate responsibility standards.
Aistech combines imagery such as optical and SAR with ground sensor data to detect potential changes in underground water, changes in populated areas downstream of mining activity, and deformations in waste dumps and other installations. We also measure and build predictive models for dust emissivity inside and around the mine. With this information, we can provide early warning and characterize the effects of the mine to help organizations decide on the correct response.
