Aistech Space is a company in the space sector whose objective is to provide valuable information through data captured from the entire surface of the Earth through its own constellation of satellites, with the aim of helping organizations, companies and entities to increase their knowledge and improve your decision making. Aistech’s mission is to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life on the planet.
Through this project Aistech has three general objectives, the design, development and implementation of prototypes of the AMICS communication system for integrated bidirectional communication and operated in a constellation of nanosatellites. The design, development and implementation of terrestrial terminals that allow communication with the satellite and transmit the information both upstream and downstream. As well as the design and development of the control, operation and data management software that allows communication between the AMICS communications system and the ground terminals.
This project is carried out at the Aistech Vigo offices, it has a budget of € 461,732.00.
This project is a CDTI and FEDER co-financing

Last Wednesday, December 14, 2016, the resolution of November 23, 2016 of the Galician Innovation Agency was published, which awarded the grants for the creation, start-up and consolidation of mixed research units aligned with the Strategic challenges and priorities identified in the RIS3 for Galicia, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (Feder) within the framework of the Feder Galicia 2014-2020 operational program, called by the Resolution of June 17, 2016.
In said resolution, the concession of the Joint Research Unit entitled: “The factory of the future applied to the development of a constellation of observation, communications and maritime and air control satellites” was published, presented by the Fundación Centro de Innovación Aerospacial de Galicia ( CINAE) and the company Aistech Space SL.
The objective of Aistech Space is to provide data and information of great accuracy, quality and frequency, at a low cost, with the aim of being able to help companies, organizations, official bodies, governments, regions … to expand their knowledge about their key areas of interest and being able to improve their decision-making, also contributing to increase their efficiency, their competitiveness, their level of safety and the quality of life in their entire environment. To do this, this company plans to deploy a constellation of 25 nanosatellites before 2020, in such a way that they can obtain this information from anywhere on the planet with an average refresh time of 10 minutes.
To develop the necessary technology in the design and manufacture of this constellation, Aistech Space and CINAE have proposed the constitution of this unit, the objective of which is to create a common platform design for all the satellites in the constellation, manufactured with high quality standards and efficiently and recurrently and deployable in multiple orbital planes. For this, industry 4.0 techniques will be applied to create an automated assembly line (factory of the future). In addition, in order to increase the useful life time to 4 years to meet Aistech Space’s objectives, the reliability of the nanosatellites design and manufacturing processes will be improved, another of the main tasks to be carried out in this mixed unit.
Primary sectors such as fisheries, agriculture and agro-forestry will benefit from the deployment of the Aistech Space constellation, since services such as precision agriculture monitoring and forecasts on its evolution, control of high seas discharges can be provided. or fire control, by combining in-situ environmental measures (wind speed and direction, air temperature, humidity … etc.) with a new and revolutionary concept of images. Other important areas of application in which Aistech Space will work through its constellation will be to provide information on the position of ships and airplanes, which allows fleet monitoring and optimization of navigation routes.
Within this Mixed Unit (which is located at the Aerospace Innovation Center in the Porto do Molle industrial estate, in Nigrán, Pontevedra), Aistech Space focuses on the tasks of integrating payloads; while CINAE acts as a mission-level and platform-level technological partner, contributing the experience of the researchers attached to said technological center in order to create the constellation of nanosatellites with the required quality. In this sense, the participation of the research groups of the researchers attached to the center in the launch of 3 nanosatellites (Xatcobeo, Humsat-D and SERPENS), endows the Joint Research Unit with great technical capacity and experience.
Aistech Space, which has the support of the Space Agency and the trust of a group of more than 30 private investors, has raised funds of more than 2 million euros to date for the development of its technology. It has the support of the CDTI, through one of its financing instruments for technological projects and the Xunta de Galicia, which makes a significant commitment to the space sector. Looking ahead to this upcoming 2017, Aistech Space is already preparing a second round of financing between different institutional and private investors worth 2 million euros; and his perspective is to be able to raise additional total funds of 3.5 million.
This Mixed Unit is subsidized by the Galician Innovation Agency.
