JOB DESCRIPTION

The “Space Infrastructure” Business Area of Aistech Space is looking for an experienced Opto-Mechanical engineer to assist in the development of our satellite imagers. We are an Agile team, highly collaborative, focused on short-term design cycles.

In addition to this, you will be in contact as well with the rest of the companies’ business areas integrating new ideas and concepts to the imagers design/testing. As a part of the payload team, you will directly participate in the architecture definition, development, testing, and deployment of the imagers on the satellite platforms.

You will interface directly with the satellite design team, payload design team, our partners, and other software developers to build up and continuously improve our satellite imagers.

THE MAIN OBJECTIVES ARE FOCUSSED ON:

  • Understand Aistech satellite constellation objectives.
  • Work together with the Space Infrastructure team and the Payload team to define opto-mechanical requirements for our satellite imagers.
  • Design mechanical / opto-mechanical systems using appropriate tools for the job.
  • Elaborate assembly and detail drawings, interface control documents, and bill of material management.
  • Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of mechanical systems oriented to determine frequency response and evaluate the mechanical stresses due to dynamic forces and loads (thermal, sinusoidal, shock).
  • Research and select COTS/Custom materials parts appropriate for the design.
  • Review possible layouts/orientations to optimize design elements.
  • Design, assemble and test mechanical parts for bench testing on imager prototypes and flight models.
  • Active collaboration in other mechanical projects of the company.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Passion for space technologies.
  • BS and/or MS in Mechanical, Optics, or similar Engineering field and/or equivalent experience.
  • Open-minded mechanical engineer with 3 -5 years’ experience in optical system design and opto-mechanical packing on satellite projects desirable.
  • Experience taking a concept from a feasibility prototype to production.
  • Highly experienced using CAD/CAE software such as Solidworks preferably.
  • Highly experienced in carrying out FEA (model simplification, simulation, and analysis) oriented to analyzing optical-structural performance for static deformations, modal analysis, and thermal deformations.
  • Familiarity with Altair software is a plus.
  • Experience in the design of electromechanical mechanisms, precision mechanics, and/or precision motion control is desirable.
  • Designing, analyzing, modeling, and simulating heat transfer and thermal management solutions.
  • Familiarity with optical design software (eg. Zemax, CodeV, etc.) is a plus.
  • Knowledgeable in applications such as scrum, waterfall, and Agile methodologies.
  • Experience in JIRA Issue & Project Management Tracker for Agile projects.
