JOB DESCRIPTION

The “Space Infrastructure” Business Area of Aistech Space is looking for an experienced Optical engineer to assist in the development of our satellite imagers. We are an Agile team, highly collaborative, focused on short-term design cycles.

In addition to this, you will be in contact as well with the rest of the companies’ business areas integrating new ideas and concepts to the imagers design/testing. As a part of the payload team, you will directly participate in the architecture definition, development, testing, and deployment of the imagers on the satellite platforms.

You will interface directly with the satellite design team, payload design team, our partners, and other software developers to build up and continuously improve our satellite imagers.

THE MAIN OBJECTIVES ARE FOCUSSED ON:

  • Understand Aistech satellite constellation objectives.
  • Work together with the Space Infrastructure team and the Payload team to define optical requirements for our satellite imagers.
  • Define design concepts and select key optical technologies in‐line with requirements.
  • Design optical systems oriented to the space environment.
  • Perform optical modeling, evaluate optical system performance according to different metrics, and perform tolerancing analysis.
  • Evaluate the manufacturability of optical designs and communicate effectively with different suppliers.
  • Apply quantitative analysis in determining root cause of technical issues related to the fabrication, assembly, and testing of optical components and systems.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate test methods and instrumentation.
  • Generate optical budgets for optical components and systems.
  • Draft acceptance test procedures and review data to verify compliance to requirements and specifications.
  • Active collaboration in other mechanical projects of the company.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Passion for space technologies.
  • BS and/or MS in Optics or similar Engineering field.
  • Open-minded optical engineer with 3 -5 years’ demonstrated experience in optical system design for satellite projects desirable.
  • Experience taking a concept from a feasibility prototype to production.
  • Experience in designing optical elements oriented to imaging applications.
  • Experience in IQ (image quality) testing will be a plus.
  • High experience with optical design software such as Zemax or CodeV.
  • Knowledge in optical and microelectronic technologies, materials, components, manufacturing processes, and constraints.
  • Demonstrated understanding of radiometric, thermal, and structural effects on optical performance metrics.
  • Hands-on experience with testing, alignment, and troubleshooting of optical component and system metrology.
  • Knowledgeable in applications such as scrum, waterfall, and Agile methodologies.

OBJECTIVES AS A MEMBER OF AISTECH TEAM

  • Actively engage in the development of documentation to build the company procedures and specification manuals.
  • Write some articles regarding different areas of interest to be published in our magazine Aistech News.
  • Participate in our team building activities.
